1934 ORIGINAL INSERT
“LITTLE MISS MARKER”
THE FILM THAT MADE SHIRLEY TEMPLE!
HERE’S AN ORIGINAL
1934 Movie Poster Insert
(14×36 inches) for the Paramount film that made Shirley Temple a household-name and an international superstar –
“LITTLE MISS MARKER.”
If you’re interested in Hollywood history and/or some of its more unusual facts, you’ll already know that Shirley Temple was considered
the
#1 biggest star during the prime of Hollywood’s so called “Golden Era” 1934-1939. That’s no small feat being it was also the prime of some pretty other fabulous legends – Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow, Marlene Dietrich, Boris Karloff, Bella Lugosi, James Cagney, Errol Flynn, Bette Davis – and that’s just to name a few. Only King Kong and Snow White outperformed Shirley Temple, and they were both animated. Come to think of it, Shirley was pretty animated. For an actual living person she outperformed everyone, cranking out hit after hit in the “A” studio feature arena. That was impressive! She more than lived up to everyone’s expectations. And when I say “everyone,” I mean every living person. I don’t care who you were, you had to marvel at her success. She single-handedly saved Fox studio from bankruptcy, when bankruptcy meant the end of the company. She was great. At singing and dancing, and, at carrying a whole feature, she remained at ease while mastering it all. Perhaps her strongest talent may have been her ability to remain a real person, grounded and reasonable, throughout the entirety of her unusually publicized life. For five years running she was the world’s most articulate infant. America couldn’t get enough of her, she was a real sensation. Besides Shirley Temple’s natural ability to entertain people, her irresistible charm – driven by the exuberance of her youth – spoke viscerally to people. I think in those dark and depressed times she represented a rare optimism, or simplicity, in regards to the future or a person’s ability to envision beyond the grim notion of it. I recently watched some of “Little Miss Marker.” Temple’s baby-fresh cuteness and forward screen presence still holds up today as world-class. Her performance in this film was infectious and clearly points as to why she became an industry unto herself during those amazing 1930’s depression era years.
If you’re going to have one Shirley Temple poster, this would be the title to get it on. It’s a standout hard-core 1930’s “A” studio feature production, which is now considered a classic. The film was officially
named to the United States National Film Registry as one of the most important films ever made. Several remakes were tried since Shirley Temple starred in this original 1934 version.
Hollywood always talked about finding another “Shirley Temple.” It never happened! This has remained Temple’s best title in a long filmography. She’s as cute as can be on this 14×36 inch poster. It’s amazing she’s even on the poster. Notice that Shirley Temple gets only 4th billing! Even though she had the title role in the picture, Paramount decided NOT to put an image of Shirley Temple on all of the posters. The fact was, she wasn’t widely known to the public yet. Happily, they pictured her on this 1934
original
release insert! Original posters advertising this film are practically nonexistent, and so that makes this rare beauty a real find. This may be the only surviving example of this insert poster, and if not – IT’S one of only a tiny number in existence!
Keep in mind that ANY 1934 ORIGINAL Paramount Studio poster is going to be RARE!
This poster is in
FANTASTIC Excellent+++ to NearMINT Condition!!
The poster ONLY had the standard folds you see on 1930’s inserts – THAT’S it! I had the poster paper-backed by one of the top conservators in the county to flatten them out. It worked perfectly. The poster displays nice!
I’ve posted direct high-resolution scans here on eBay so you can really see how nice this poster truly is
.
I’ve had the poster stored FLAT since it was backed.
I’ll ship it flat to keep it flat and to keep the folds from coming back!
LINEN-MOUNTING & CONSERVATION PAPER BACKING
is an accepted form of poster preservation by the Library of Congress and every Museum in the country. Except for one or two, every one of the top twenty $100,000.00 and up most expensive selling movie posters were all paper or linen-mounted. A lot of advanced poster buyers request and prefer mounted posters because it makes framing and displaying the posters much easier. All of my backed posters have been stored FLAT so they DO NOT have a curl from storing them rolled in a tube – They’re ready for framing and display!
Buying this poster is ECONOMY PROOF!
Why
waste your money in the stock market? It can crash regardless of
any decision you make and can even crash regardless of any decision made
by the company related to the stock – Leaving you with a near worthless
piece of paper that won’t inspire anyone! With the purchase of an historic
document such as this Shirley Temple treasure, it doesn’t matter what happens to the
economy, you’ll still have the poster, which can be
displayed and enjoyed. The magnificence of art and historic documents have an
inherent value that relates to civilization and society. Unless civilization
itself crashes then this piece will hold its value, and, if civilization itself
crashes – Who’ll care about money? This poster is definitely
ECONOMY PROOF!
